The day started with a drive along the coast into the city of Biloxi, Mississippi. The coast was quite beautiful, long stretches of white sand beaches that were easily accessible as there were no buildings between the road and the beach. We later discovered that this 27 miles section of beach is entirely man-made. All that lovely sand was originally trucked in - only in America!!

After Biloxi we continued to follow coastal roads but for the remainder of the day the road was behind a row of private dwellings so we only got brief glimpses of the water. Generally we are not very impressed by beaches, Australia has such a wealth of long sandy beaches that we rarely find beaches that live up to our expectations. We had to admit however that this stretch of the gulf coast was beautiful.

Camp On The Gulf - has the distinction of being the most expensive campground we have ever stayed at. The cheapest site cost us nearly $80. The most expensive, right next to the beach, was nearly $100. It's the only campground in the area that fronts onto the beach. But at least we could walk the beach and Rob was able to catch a couple of waves.
