Today we traveled west on highway 16 towards Prince Rupert. The day was clear and sunny, although cold with temps around 28°F, until late in the afternoon. Last night was cold as the muddy roads in the camp ground were as hard as concrete this morning.
The countryside we traveled through was well covered in snow. The landscape was open with rolling hills and small rounded mountains in the distance and evergreens and deciduous trees all about. It reminded me a lot of the scenery Brendon and I saw in Siberia except here there were more, and bigger farms, and the roads and driveways had been cleared of snow and as a result there was a lot more brown and grey from the visible mud and gravel.
About 3:30pm we started looking for the place we thought we would camp, Co-op Lake. We missed the turn so Nina got out the GPS and guided us back to the correct turn off. A few kms down this forest road and we came to the camp ground entrance. This was another one of those situations where only the entry road had been plowed.
In the parking lot and out on the lake there was evidence that some fishermen had been at play during the day. There were lots of fresh boot tracks on the lake and the fishing holes had only a thin layer of ice on top of the water.
In order to have our evening cocktails on a picnic table I had to break out the shovel, and clear the snow off the table, we had selected.
Since the weather was clear and not much wind, after drinks were over, I cooked dinner outside while Nina went inside and did some research for the next days travel.
By 8:00pm the sun was almost down, the sky was mostly clear, there was a bright moon in the sky and the temperature was down to 24°F.
