Today we had our longest driving leg of the trip so far, from Whiethorse to Dempster Junction. As indicated in yesterdays entry the reason for this is to start the Dempster Hwy while the ice bridges to Inuvik are open.

We spent all morning in Whitehorse getting groceries, a spare fuel can, and other essentials for the Dempster trip. Did not get on the road until nearly 14:00. But at this latitude the days are already long so we had plenty of time to complete the jaunt before dark.

The day was beautiful, clear blue sky and bright sun. Just great weather to see any scenery but particularly great weather and light to see the Yukon and Klondike Rivers. Plus the Pelly and Stewart Rivers both flow into the Yukon.

The Klondike highway from Whitehorse to Dempster Junction and then Dawson City is lonely, like the Cassiar, with few settlements and most of those closed.

We arrived at Dawson Junction about 20:00. The place was closed so we parked in the gas station lot for the night. During the night four semis joined us, unfortunately - because of their engine noise.
