I know it's getting boring, starting another entry with a weather report; but - it's another beautiful day with blue sky and bright sunshine.
We had wonderful views today of Mt McKinley and the Alaska range as we travelled south. Each time we stopped at a view point McKinley seemed closer and more imposing. About 100?? miles from Anchorage we thought we had found the best view from a hill next to a relatively new rest stop. Like many other travelers we stopped there, took photos and admired the view. Later in the day we took the side road into Talkeetna, and discovered an even more imposing view of the mountain.
Talkeetna is a town of about 800 people and is the base for climbing Mt McKinley. Most climbing parties fly to the mountain from Talkeetna and land on one of the glaciers flanking the mountain. It appears that the towns only industry is tourism.
We spent the night at a place called Montana Creek.
