We spent much of the morning and early afternoon exploring downtown Edmonton. Certainly not enough time for what appeared to be a wonderfully positioned city on the high northern banks of the Saskatchewan River. We did get a chance to walk along the river through Victoria Park. A lot of people were out walking, jogging and cycling. I guess the local citizens like to enjoy the limited sunny, warm weather when ever they can.

Much of the drive from Edmondon to Jasper is simply another road through a forest corridor. Though today it was a divided 4 lane road and the forest was shown to its best in the beautiful sunny weather. However at the town of Hinton about 100 kms from Jasper the Rockies are finally close enough to make an impression and from there on the view is dominated by the peaks.

We have seen a lot of mountains and lakes already on this trip but I must say seeing the Rockies this afternoon was a treat. There is something special about them, maybe its the light.

After passing the park gate and paying our $20 per day entrance fee we turned south for the 17 km drive to Miette Hot Springs for a relaxing soak before retracing our route back almost to 16 the highway and Pocahontas Campground for the night. We seem to have developed a fondness for hot springs and Miette was certainly enjoyable; however less so because Nina's sandals were stolen while she was in the pool.
