We woke this morning to find that the rest area was next to a prison and that the truck engines had not become any quieter during the night.
After stops at Camping world and Bank of America we were back on I-10 heading east, the sign to San Antonio says its 560 miles or something like that. And I am sure all of it is going to be flat and hot.
There was not much to punctuate the day. Late morning in a period of unexpected cell phone reception we got a call from our bank about possible unauthorized transactions on one of our credit cards; this resulted in 45 minutes stopped on the side of the road talking to various B of A call centers. A bit later we ran into a rain storm that dropped the temp to 75°F for about 20 minutes. Immediately after the rain storm we hit a small sand storm.
The land continued to be flat and hot.
Mid afternoon we modified our plans for the day and decided not to push onto San Antonio but to stop near the town of Sonora. A quick look in our Woodall's camping ground guide revealed that there was only one RV park within 50 miles of this town and it only charged $15 a night - what a metropolis this must be - so with (very) low expectations we headed for The Caverns of Sonora RV Park .
I am pleased to say that The Caverns of Sonora RV Park turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It is a rural RV park and does not have dumping or sewerage facilities, but had power, showers, nice shady trees and a very pleasant setting. The place is also a working ranch. We had a pleasant late afternoon under the trees away from the pounding rays of the afternoon sun.
