We were underway by 6:00 am this morning, todays leg is long.
It took about three hours today to make the journey to Vera Cruz. This is a major shipping port on the Gulf of Mexico and the base for the Mexican Navy. The harbor area is quite industrial but there are miles of water front that have been turned over to tourism with wall to wall hotels. From what we could see of the signs most tourists are Mexican's rather than foreigners.
THe afternoons travels took us along a freeway - called an Autopista - for about 100 miles roughly along the gulf and then a less comfortable road partly across the isthmus that separates the Atlantic from the Pacific.
We stopped for the night at another PEMEX gas station, it has a restaurant, internet, free showers and a mini-mart. We were lucky as we could find some shade in the parking lot to hide under. Today the temperature was around 95°F most of the day and 100+% humidity.
