The camping ground was much quieter this morning, with many of the cars of last night having departed sometime during the night. The campers that were still present were in the process of packing indicating that the holiday weekend was coming to an end. The road down out of the mountains was also much quieter with only a little bit of local traffic.

We had some navigational challenges heading south from Zipaquira as the main road seemed to be closed and there were detour signs and road works everywhere. But eventually we got onto divided highway, the Autopista, towards Bogota. About 20 minute later we arrived at the Chia exit which would be the start of the road that bypasses Bogota to the west.

We decided to make a short stop at the local mall, Centro Chia, for internet, more cell phone minutes, and the possibility of some better maps. While intended to be a short stop this episode dragged out to over 3 hours. And we did not find a workable internet cafe in which we could hook up our laptops.

As happens the delay was fortuitous, for when we returned to the Tiger in the parking lot, who should come over to us but Miguel, a member of a Chia family we had met in Cartagena. The upshot of this chance meeting was an invitation back to the family home in Chia, and an afternoon chatting about our lives, our trip and other things.

Dinner with Miguel and his mother Gloria was at a very unusual local restaurant, Andres Carne De Res - their web site is AndresCarneDeRes.com. The place was huge, could seat a hundred. Outside was decorated with all kinds of lights and some fiberglass cows. Inside was all heavy wooden tables and bench seats, and again all kinds of junk used very effectively as decorations.

Camping

We stayed with some friends in Chia last night.

Chia Centro is a large mall right next to the Bogota Autopista that has a large fenced and guarded parking lot. We did not try it but there is a chance one could park there overnight.
