Today was a long day of travel.
First we had a 3 hour leg in the boat to Atalaya, it rained last night and the Alta Madre De Dios was running very strongly and with a lot of debris in the water. We had to stop a number of times to clear debris from the water intake on the engine. The sky was overcast and the ride was cool and pleasant.
In Atalaya we spent about an hour unloading the boat and loading the bus, and then the 9 hour drive back to Cusco commenced. The driver seemed to be going even faster on our return journey than he did on the our first day, hence windows were open to provide fresh air to ward off motion sickness. There were no highlights on the drive, just a slog to get back to Cusco.
We arrived in Cusco about 8:00pm and transferred to a mini bus to take us back to our camp ground. There was a bit of a run around then as one of the guests was missing a bag with camera and film in it. Luckily that was recovered.
I would summarize the trip by saying that it was interesting, though not spectacular, and we learned a lot about the jungle and the people that live in it.
