It's still raining.
We realized this morning that we don't have enough Chilean currency so our plan became - to head for Puerto Cisnes (Port of Swans), a short side trip from highway 7, as one of our guide books says there is an ATM there.
The drive to the Cisnes turn off continued the pattern of yesterday. Glimpses of breath taking mountains, again today with fresh snow, raging rivers and water falls everywhere. Along that section we met a group of motorcyclists on a patagonia adventure, they had members from all parts of the world. They were also dressed in comprehensive wet weather gear.
The road into Cisnes is being paved, so there was road work along almost the entire 32km. Some of that length is nice new black top - but only one lane is complete at any point - and other parts are just mine fields of 2-3 ft wide 8 inch deep potholes.
Puerto Cisnes turned out to be a wet, cold but quaint little port town. We eventually got some money from the one ATM and bought some groceries. A walk around the town allowed us to make the acquaintance of 3 of the local dogs who followed us for our 40 minute stroll.
Eventually we got back to highway 7 and most of the remainder of the days journey was on paved road. The scenery, still glimpsed through mist and rain, continued to be breathtaking.
None of our guide books mentioned our next stop, Puerto Aysen, so we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to observe that it seems to have a wide range of services, gas, supermarket, ATM, internet, and a tourist information office where we found out about the camping ground we are using tonight. We will be back in this town tomorrow morning.
Camping
We asked at the Tourist Info center in Puerto Aysen about camping grounds and were directed to Quincho La Pancha situated about 7 kms from the center of town on the road to Lago Los Palos. The camping area is a nice grassy area with picnic tables, and a short walk to the toilets and showers - the water seems hot but we have not used them at the time of writing. In fine weather the camp would have great views of some of the surrounding mountains.
On the road today we saw few/no campgrounds and only a few places to pull off for the night.
