It rained hard all night and this morning the river was at least 2 feet higher.
We were at the ferry by 9:00 and idled away the 2 hour wait, talking to our new traveling companions. Eventually the other vehicles arrived; two French couples, an army truck and bus, and a couple of small pickup trucks.
The Israeli couple got a lift with one of the French groups. This ride will take them farther north along highway 7 than we can.
The weather improved as we traveled north from the ferry. By the time we reached Cochrane it was sunny and north of Cochrane it was positively summery - its a pity we did not have some of this good weather as we traveled south along this road.
We camped early in order to cook all the food we have left in the hope that we will be able to take it across the Chile-Argentine border in that form as we would certainly not be able to take it uncooked. The agricultural restrictions across the Chile/Argentine border (in either direction) are a real pain when traveling in remote areas like this. We cannot carry any meat, dairy products, fruit or vegetables across but there are almost no towns at which to buy it when we have crossed.
We had a wonderful afternoon working in the sun cooking; Nina gave the house a good spring clean.
Argentina here we come!!
Camping
We found a nice grassy patch beside the road a few km north of the bridge over the Rio Chucabuco. On this road traffic noise is not going to be a problem.
