Today looked like being just a travel day, but there were two surprises.
The first was very welcome. The itinerary we had, indicated that we would fly to Saigon and then travel by car, a 4 hour drive, to Can Tho. But as it turned out the plane tickets our guide had were for a direct flight to Can Tho. This effectively reduced the time sitting which greatly reducing the stress on our old bodies.
We arrived in Can Tho just before lunch and to say the place was "quiet" would be an understatement. I went for a walk to find some ingredients for lunch and noticed that unlike all the other places we have been in Vietnam I could stand in the middle of the road for a considerable time without any concern about being run-over, almost no traffic and we were in the "center" of Can Tho.
However to our surprise around 5:30 the streets started to fill up and by 6:30 the street in front of our hotel was closed to traffic, the street was full of people, loud music was playing, and groups were giving dancing displays on the roadway.
We went out for a walk amongst the crowd both before and after dinner, taking in some memories of our neighborhood alongside the Mekong River and in particular the famous pedestrian bridge called by locals the Love Bridge
