Try the Nullarbor Golf Links for your next golfing holiday. The course stretches the 1365 kms of the Eyre Highway between Kalgoorlie Western Australia and Ceduna South Australia. Each hole is located at one of the towns or road houses along the way. We decided to provide a few photos of the course so that our friends who are keen golfers can accurately assess the course conditions before buying plane tickets to Kalgoorlie.
Our first stop today was the roadhouse of Madura. Like the other road houses on this long lonely drive it really is nothing more than a gas station with attached restaurant, motel and camping ground. This is where we took the first golfing photo. There is some significance to the name of the hole at Madura (Brumby's Run). Interestingly back in the 1870's there was a horse breeding and training business operating out of Madura that was producing quality Polo and Cavalry horses for the British Imperial Indian Army.
Another interesting feature of Madura is that it is at the bottom of the descent where the Eyre Highway first drops down onto the Roe Plain from the limestone escarpment that form the sea cliffs (Baxter Cliffs) that characterize the coast west of Madura.
This morning we passed this group of cyclists (shown in the first photo) and noticed on the side of their support vehicle the words Lets Talk plus the information that they were riding from Perth to Warrnambool (Victoria) to support awareness of mental health. We passed them a few times during the day.
We camped the night at the Eucla Roadhouse which coincidentally is where the Eyre Highway ascends from the Roe Plain back onto the limestaone escarpment that forms the eastern sea cliffs or Bunda Cliffs. Eucla is very close to the coast so we had a nice sea breeze all night which made for a comfortable sleep.
Eucla is about 5 km west of the border with South Australia.
