As you can see the flies were back this morning as soon as the sun appeared; this prompted us to get moving and keep moving. The second photograph are the signs at the junction of two gravel roads; the view was the same in every direction. It is amazing even to us how empty this place can sometimes feel; in todays driving we passed 3 other vehicles and one of those was a road grader.
We made a brief stop this morning at Gammon Ranges National Park headquaters at a place called Balcanoona, it had nice facilities and we got some good info from the lady ranger who stopped to see if she could help us.
The dome shaped building is a copper smelter at a place called Bolla Bollana, there are other ruins on the same site. It is just inside the boundary of the Gammon Ranges National Park, and is only accessible by a 4x4 track.
Notice the picture of the troopy under the tree branch, this image alone justfied (in our minds) our decision not to bring our 13 ft tall yellow truck to Australia. There have been other situations already which have justified that decision and at some point I will write a post on why we made that decision and whether we think it was a good one.
Tonight we are at an outback resort called Arkaroola, it's a little oasis of somewhat civilized facilities in a hot dry wilderness. Staying here gave us a chance to do the washing, have a shower, and have a few extra beers from the restaurant bar.
