We start todays post with a couple of photos of last nights camp. Thereafter a few photos of an aboriginal ochre mine or pit. Aboriginal people collect minerals of various colors from this river bank (and other ochre pits like this one) and use them for body paint and making art. In other parts of Central Australia such colored minerals were traded between tribes and regular trade routes existed.
At Ormiston Gorge we did a hike that took us around the rim of the gorge and returned via the creek with a sandy and rocky bed. I will let the pictures of this hike speak for themselves.
We camped for the night at Glen Helen Station which is also the access point for Glen Helen Gorge which had the largest waterhole we have so far seen.
One of the real treats of our stay was a sighting of a Dingo wandering around camp.
The campground itself was a bit primitive, very dusty, not in anyway protected from the wind, and too few toilets/bathrooms for the number of people.
We discovered eventually (and too late) that there was a nice bush camp about 300 meters further west on the north side of the road.
