Today was sunny and warm so we were keen to get back to Uluru and capture some of the more typical photos of the big rock in sunshine. No walking around it this time just drive around it and look for some good images, because today we wanted to do a hike at another nearby bunch of rocks called either The Olgas or Kata Tjuta.
So what's with Robert standing near a dish antenna?. Well the sign for this roadside rest area also indicated that the rest area had cell phone reception. So we stopped to check emails expecting there would be a small cell station somewhere nearby. We were surprised to find that there was only this antenna and a metal pole and instructions to put your cell phone on top of the pole where the antenna would concentrate whatever cell reception happened to be in the area.
Did not work!
Second photo is me inside the tent trying to find the electrical problem; I managed to find a way to raise the tent using a pair of jumper-leads.
The Olgas are a cluster of large rock hills or domes about 50km west of Uluru and the walk we had chosen proceeded up the gorge between two of the larger domes. It turned out to be a short and pretty easy walk, got us close to the rock that makes up these domes, and we were lucky to see water in the gorge (water from yesterdays rain).
Interestingly as we were about to start our walk we bumped into Ronan as he was completing a much longer walk. During our short catchup conversation he agreed to wait for us to finish the walk, then we would all travel back to Curtin Springs for the night. Since we had a family room for the night with 2 bedrooms and sleeping accomodation for 5 we offered him "a room for the night".
