Last evening we noticed that the trees at the entrance to the Lazy Lizard had a good size population of fruit bats. They were quite noisy, sqwarking away for much of the night. This morning with some better light Nina caught a few photos of these surprisingly large creatures, as well as a few scenes from the town of Pine Creek, the railway museum and a local cricket match.

About a mile from the campground as we pulled onto the Stuart Highway there was a loud "bang" from the vehicle and then no power, luckily a little down hill allowed us to coast to the side of the road where we could call the guys at WaExperts.com.au and do some diagnosis. The vehicle would move in 4wd but not in 2wd, and in 2wd the rear drive shaft would turn but the vehicle would not move. Diagnosis, something broken in the rear axle. This opinion was soon supported by WaExperts. Their diagnosis, broken right rear axle shaft.

Since we could drive the vehicle in 4wd high range the plan became drive another 100km south to the town of Katherine and on Monday RJ Autos would fix the problem. That meant spending at least 3 nights in Katherine, not what we had planned at all.

Once we arrived in Katherine we found a nice campground on the Katherine River, Katherine Holday Park, and settled in for a quiet stay.
