We were at Karijini and starting our first "hike" by 8:30 thereby facilitating what turned out to be a very full day.
The days first adventure was a travers of Weano Gorge which ends in a slightly precarious descent to Hand Rail Pool, via - you guessed it, a metal hand rail. I would ask the reader to note the photo of Nina climbing up that hand rail at the start of the return. I think this justifies me applying the adjective stubborn, or maybe determined to my lovely wife. Though little did I know at the time what the afternoon would bring.
As alluded to above our afternoon trek turned out to be quite hair-raising; Joffre Water Fall and Pool is at the bottom of a very steep descent which requires some actual climbing in the sense of "where is my next hand hold". Added to this some of the descent has one facing outwards and downwards so that there is no ignoring the distance one could fall if something "slipped". Take a close look at photos 5,6 and 12 in the second set.
Needless to say at the end of the day we felt very satisfied with what we had managed to get our aged bodies to do.
We camped at the Dales campground. A basic bush camp. As we expected, the place was packed.
