After retracing yesterdays drive from Carnarvon to Quobba our day came to an unexpectedly quick end. For some reason we were both feeling sleepy, and even took the unprecedented step of stopping at a rest area, putting up the tent and having a sleep. This convinced us that rather than continuing with the our original plan of spending the night at Hamelin Pool (a day of about 300km) we should stop early. As luck would have it we were not far from Wooramel River Retreat when this decision was made so that became our nights stopping place.
Some what like Quobba, Wooremal is a working sheep station that has diversified into the tourist business to help make ends meet. The tourist part of the business offers accomodation, camping, thermal baths and associated activities on the banks of the Wooramel River. The link above (and repeated here) is a slick add for the tourist business. This link will give you a bit more history and detail.
Todays photos are in two groups; group one are some images from this morning at Quobba; while group two is from the afternoon at Wooremal.
Wooramel was very pleasant. A picturesque river setting with amazing river gums, lots of noisy galahs (grey and red cockatoos) and even a wandering bull.
Note the photo of the lone galah; the tree is hollow at the point where the bird is standing and the bird seemed to be using the hollow space as a nest.
