When we woke this morning it was raining heavily so we were certainly glad to be housed in our nice cabin. Eventually the rain eased and we started the day of travel. First stop was a little tour around Nyngan, a look at the Coach House a display of wagons and other stuff from the pioneer days. At the same place is a very large statue of The Bogan a guy with a fishing pole. We guessed this name comes from the Bogan River on which the town is situated.

After leaving Nyngan it was a pretty straight drive west to Cobar, an old mining town, and one that is now famous in tourist circles for the Big Beer Can. In the flesh it is not as big as the name, and other examples of The Big XXXX, suggests.

A quote from one of our guide books regarding the Big Beer Can

Watch for the Big Beer Can, Cobar's contribution to that strange provincial Australian need to erect oversized and decidedly kitsch monuments to prosaic icons of Aussie life.

A nice enough small town where we had lunch under that shade of an enormous Fig Tree.

From Cobar we headed North towards Bourke. It did not take long before we started seeing goats on the side of the road, and more goats, and more goats. In all we must have passed hundreds of them spread out along the roadside eating the nice green grass in the culverts. We presume from recent rains.

As you can see from todays photos Nina got into the goat spirit and we spent a lot of time trying to get good photos of these elusive animals.

We camped the night at Curraweena Rest Area 60-70 km short of Bourke and spent some of the afternoon with more goat photography.
