This entry will make a little more sense with the following map of the Menindee Lakes complex.

Before leaving the Menindee lakes area we decided to explore the Main Weir road, which as you can see from the map travels along the shore of Lake Pamamaroo before arriving at the weir across the Darling River. At the weir there was a small causeway across the river so we were able to return to the town of Menindee via the Menindee-Wilcannia Road to complete the circuit.

Once done with the weir exploration we returned to Broken Hill for fuel and supplies before moving on to Silverton about 25km NW of Broken Hill.

Silverton was established in the 1880 when silver was discovered in the area, but these days is probably more famous (if that is the right word) as being the location for the movie Mad Max 2 and A Town Like Alice, and indeed is the location of the MadMax2 Museum. The town also has a number of nice examples of pioneer stone buildings and a very nice campground called Penrose Park. The Park was established in 1937 as an entertainment destination for families of Broken Hill mine workers and for a period a picnic-train ran regularly from Broken Hill to Penrose Park.

The park was sufficiently attractive that we decided to stay the night.
