Today was simply a travel day. We needed to get to Tibooburra and that would be the longest days drive of the trip so far. Before starting I got a coffee at the Silverton pub and then we were on our way.
The drive from Broken Hill to Tibooburra is basically 300 km straight North with only 1 potential stop. That stop is a road house called Packsaddle and is about 170km from BH. The road is sealed the entire distance but even so is subject to closure from flooding as the road passes through many-many dry creek beds that flood and fill with mud after rain. At the beginning, the road follows the Barrier Range and gains some altitude (100+ meters or so) and then descends to flat salt bush covered plains.
Tibooburra is a small town, essentially 1 street, has 2 pubs, two fuel stations and general stores, and a couple of campgrounds. If you want to buy a roadhouse or a pub this place has a deal for you.
A notable feature of Tibooburra are granite boulders that become visible upon entering the town and form a very interesting little hill in the main campground.
By the way the emu looking at us over the back of the truck is a local resident named Sue.
