Our plan for this trip was to get to Birdsville via Tibooburra, Cameron Corner and Innamincka. However yesterday afternoon we discovered from the local roadhouse owner that we could get as far as Cameron Corder but thereafter all roads were closed. So today, hoping for a bit of luck, we setout on the 140km drive to Cameron Corner with the hope we could go farther but with the expectation that we would have to return to Tibooburra.
And so it transpired.
Cameron Corner is the spot where the borders of NSW, QLD and SA meet. It is marked on the ground by a single pub/shop building, a gate through the dog proof fence and a white marker pole.
The drive was interesting in an Australian outback kind of way. The gravel road was in good condition, and passed through various terrains, white gibber (stone) desert, bright green grass lands and rolling sand dunes, and especially a large clay pan.
Along the way we also had the benefit of finding three National Park Information stations that continued that fashion of having The Big XXXX. In this case the Big Western Quoll, The Big Bilby and The Big Bandicoot
WE camped the night back in Tibooburra.
