Today was a bit of a rest day, with a few chores like washing thrown in. We did a little sightseeing around the town.
The bore head where water comes out at 280lbs/square inch at 98°C.
The area around the Diamantina River where recent floods have turned the area into a green oasis.
This morning we made the obligatory 35km run out to the start of the Simpson Desert Crossing and the sand dune known as Big Red. As I understand it this is the tallest dune on the entire Simpson Crossing. We drove up onto the dune at the Big Red sight and the Little Red sight. In neither case was this difficult; simply select 4wd high range in 2nd gear and go. The view from the top of Big Red was impressive and certainly the rest of the Simpson Track disappearing into the West was alluring.
Maybe we will be back.
