The recent post regarding the revamp of the website foreshadowed our next adventure, 6 months exploring the western half of Australia.

The purpose of this post is to give a little more detail about that expedition, our preparation for it and how it differs from the other adventures we have undertaken over the past 10 years.

The broad plan

Our Australian Adventure will start in Perth, Western Australia in late February 2019 where we will pickup a Toyota Troop Carrier vehicle from waexperts.com.au.

The vehicle is fitted out for outback travel and camping (roof top tent) and I will give more details of the vehicle, and waexperts.com.au as the adventure proceeds.

From Perth our plan will cover nearly 30,000 km and range as far as Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin, the full length of the Western Australian coast and will return to Perth and drop the vehicle in August.

Accomodation

Those readers familiar with our other travels will already have guessed that this journey will have much more of a "rustic" flavor in terms of accommodation and creature comforts; camping versus a well equipped motorhome.

Packing

So one of the big differences we have noticed is packing. We have been faced with the task of determining what we will need for the expedition and packing those items into suitcases suitable for checking with an airline for travel to Australia.

Trying to fit 6 months of clothes, electronics and other 'stuff' in suitcases is a not entirely pleasant new experience, particularly compared to our previous practice of simply loading everything we could think of into our 12 ton truck.

Below is a photo record of what we are taking; no doubt this record will give us a bit of a laugh when the expedition is over and we know all the mistakes we made.

I should note that Nina was not prepared for me to photograph her clothes so there is a good sized bundle of such not shown.

Also the small black bag is almost entirely given over to the transport of 12 copies of a book that Nina has prepared for her family. It contains a transcription of letters her (paternal) grandfather wrote to her grandmother during the World War I.
