We got underway early afternoon yesterday and made it as far as a rest stop just east of Hood River, OR.
Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny and we spent the remainder of the day driving east in a leisurely fashion soaking in the sun and the scenery. We never get tired of the Columbia valley.
The days journey gave me an opportunity to test the Ford's odometer and to confirm what I had suspected on the return from Denver. The odometer (and speedometer) is under estimating the distance we travel (and our speed) by about 12.5%. This is a result of the larger tires fitted to the vehicle. There is some good news in this as it means that the 10 mpg average fuel consumption indicated by the vehicle computer is actually 11+mpg. Thus the ER is using some 30-40% more fuel than the Tiger. On the other hand the living quarters of the ER are at least 30-40% more comfortable (spacious!!) than the Tiger.
Late in the afternoon we pulled into Farewell Bend State Park near Ontario, OR. This is a lovely park and campground on the Snake River. The place was almost packed out. There is a fishing competition in progress based around the park and tomorrow (Saturday) all state parks and state campgrounds in Oregon are free.
We occupied ourselves exploring the park and getting to know the local abundant population of small prairie dogs.
