One of the things we really like about low-key RV travel is that days take on a life of their own without us really knowing in advance what will come.
Take today for example.
We started out from our campground on what initially looked like a gentle 8 mile gravel road back to the blacktop of SR276. The gravel road turned into a pair of wheel ruts, which quickly turned into a series of switchbacks and some rough rock corners that demanded some careful examination even though they proved to be easy for the ER.
Back on SR273 and then onto SR95 we followed the the valley of the small but flowing stream of North Wash through simply stunning canyon scenery. Near Hog Springs Rest Area we could resist no longer and stopped to paddle our feet in the stream, and simply take in the hot sun and cool water.
A little farther down SR95 we stopped for an afternoon snooze and to try a culinary experiment. Could we overcome the complexities of our convection oven and cook a frittata? Judge for yourselves in the accompanying photos.
Having conquered the cooking challenge we continued on SR95 to the cliffs on the west bank of Glen Canyon and Lake Powell. From this lookout we had simply outstanding views of the canyon, the lake and in the middle distance the Colorado River and the Dirty Devil River. In addition just across the lake we could see the small town of Hite with a simply enormous concrete launching ramp.
After taking on water and dumping some waste water at Hite we followed SR95 (also known as the Bicentennial Highway) as it paralleled White Canyon to Natural Bridges National Monument.
Not surprisingly the campground at Bridges was full so we were forced to find ourselves a rustic spot on a local dirt road. We had a really nice spot, and free, spot among the Junipers and Pines.
At the start of the day we had planned absolutely non of these experiences!
