After exiting camp we took a short but rocky side trail into the Indian ruins at Mule Canyon. There were remains of ceremonial towers built of stones and mud as well as some remains of cliff dwellings. We spent a couple of hours there all in all climbing up and down the canyon.
Close to the entrance to Natural Bridges NM we headed up Bears Ears trail and after some steep and interesting climbing came to some nice aspen and pine forests at nearly 9,000 ft. Seemed that all the guests wanted something higher, cooler and more insect free than last nights sandy canyon camp.
Since we stopped early, about 2:30 pm, and the place had an abundance of fire wood Nina and I decided it was time to try something we had not done in a long time. Cook a roast in the dutch oven.
As some of you might know this is some what time consuming process. Start a fire, get some hot coals, put them in a hole, put the oven on top of those, then some more coals on top of the oven. Watch it all so that the temperature stays right.
I am pleased to report it turn out very well!!
