We were surprised this morning to find two side excursions to water falls (Wekusko Falls, and Pisew Falls), surprised because the land seems so flat that we had trouble imagining that anything could fall. But we should not have been surprised As these falls were not distinguished by the height of the fall but by the volume of water and power of the flow. Pisew Falls in particular was very impressive and unusually even Nina was impressed.

We found this little guy on the side of a walking trial at Wekusko Falls. He seemed to be busily trying to lift a mat that had been placed over some recently dug earth.

One of the other features of the precambrian shield that we could not help but notice is the graffiti. It seems like everyone in Saskatchewan/Manitoba has written their name on every piece of roadside rock.

Mid afternoon we arrived in Thompson and after having a bit of a look around found our way to the railway station in time to watch the loading and departure of the twice weekly train to Churchill and to observe the various forms of merchandise that the locals loaded into the baggage car.

A note to traveler about cell phones. We noticed that after entering Manitoba we could not get any cell reception on our US (T-Mobile) cell phones but that our iPad with a Canadian Rogers chip seemed to sometimes work. By googling I eventually found some discussion about MTS (the Manatoba cell company) refusing to share cell towers with other companies and hence denying service to travelers like us.

We camped the night in the parking lot of Walmart (and a local shopping mall) which happened to be across the road the the local McDonald's. We were surprised by how busy both the mall and McDonal's drive through were.
