It was a little difficult getting out of Renmark this morning, as it is a sizeable town with lots of relatively new housing -- like in the last 25 years. Using two GPS devices was also a contributing factor to my navigation difficulties.
The first stop of the was a little town called Morgan. This was quite a surprise. Approaching the town along the B64 highway one gets no warning that this town in on the Murray River and was once a thriving port town.
It also has a good backery where I had a nice meat pie for brunch.
From Morgan I continued through country South Australia with short stops in Clare, Snowtown (has it ever snowed in this part of SA ?), Bute (an old mining town), to Kadina hoping to find a motel for the night. But no luck, Kadina was packed.
My fallback accomodation plan when Kadina+Motel failed was a donation only campground in the town of Alford. This turned out to be very pleasant. Some nice human company as well as a family of kangaroos that seemed to like the well grassed playing field inside the campground area.
As a bonus there was a mobile food stand operating in the main street of Alford. From this I was served a bacon and egg sandwhich by a tall brown lady from Kenya.
The donation box, in the shape of an emu, was a nice touch.
