The first photo in todays record is of the motel building at Cocklebiddy Roadhouse. The photo was taken at around 8:00 local time (1 hour and 15 minutes behind Sydney) as I was captured by the quality of the light. Interestingly the bike was quite wet from dew overnight.

Still Looks Treeless to me

The second photo was taken a little west of Cocklebiddy which strictly speaking is well past the end of the "tree-less" area. But as you can see while there might be trees strictly speaking it still looks sort of "tree-less".

90 Miles Straight

The third photo signals the Western end of the famous 90 miles perfectly straight, it felt like it too. And I did not (unfortunately) notice the matching sign at the western end.

Grey Nomads

This photo was taken at Balladonia Road House. This little concentration of senior citizens, and their caravans and 4x4 tow vehicles, for me represents a microcosm of the whole trip so far. Such combinations are by far the most common vehicle on the roads I have travelled. It is not lost on me that I am also a senior citizen just traveling in a slightly different vehicle.

Interesting Bush

I stop for a rest at this spot and noticed that the bush was interesting.

The Road Goes Ever On

About mid afternoon I came over a slight rise in the road and got this view of the road going straight into the distance. It reminded me of the line from "The Hobbit" about the "road goes ever on".

A Tempting Camping Spot

Another rest break. This was a very attractive camping spot next to a clay pan. A pretty common geographic feature in outback Australia.

Salmon Gums

The final hour into Norseman (the end of day destination) the forest changed to these red/pink truncked eucalypt trees. I found out later they are called Salmon Gums after their color.

Also found out later that tomorrow I would pass through a town named after these trees.
