The place I stayed last night was very nice. An old brick house, thoroughly renovated, a bed room for each guest and shared kitchen, dining room and tv room. It was called Avon Homestay.

Todays ride travelled through countryside that was pretty much all wheat growing territory, ploughed fields and large grain silos being common sights. Initially the country was rolling hills but as the day progressed the hills flattened into flatish land that stretched infinitely into the distance.

The common feature of the day was the water pipeline that feeds all the little towns along this road as well as the city of Kalgoorlie at the end of the road with drinking water.

My first stop of the day was a small town called Meckering. A very tidy little place with a very nicely appointed park, and also the sight of a major earthquake in 1968. Which was news to me.

I had a coffee and snack in Meckering and was more than a little surprised to find that the man running the only coffee shop in the town was from Edmonton Alberta. We swapped stories about Alberta, Watson Lakes forest of signs and other Canadian icons while he made my coffee.

At one point early in the afternoon the old hotel building in the first picture below caught my attention and I circled back to get a picture. It was in a town called Burracoppin. In addition to the hotel building the town had a large picnic area which allowed RVs to stay overnight.

I stopped for the night at a motel in the town of Southern Cross. Another nicely presented little town with a charming main street, a couple of hotels and motels and a lookout on a nearby hill with a small exhibit of that water pipeline. Here is a link to a wiki entry for that pipeline.
