Today marked a noteable event for this short tour of Australia because today I reached derby on the North West Coast where the Indian Ocean meets the Timor Sea. From this point onwards my travel will have a general South East direction and will be heading home as Derby marked, in some sense, the turnaround point of the trip.

In yesterdays post I made some commecnts about the camping ground at Roebuck Road House but did not include any photos. Below are a few of the campground and cabins.

Today I saw the first indicators of what I think of a "kimberly country", fields of termite mounds, and boab trees followed by the crossing of the mighty Fitzroy River floodplain, which at this point is 10km wide..

Below are a few pictures of and from the turnaround point mentioned above. It is the Derby Jetty which is accessed along a narrow penninsula of earth through salt pans from the town of Derby.

The main street of Derby has a very well maintained center island of grass and Boab trees.

From Derby I retraced my route back to the northern end of the Fitzroy floodplain and Wallare Road House. As I pulled into the parking lot I met and had a short conversation with the rider in the photo below. A German guy named Alex on a Yamaha Tenere World Raid. He traveled overland from Europe. You can find him on Instagram under the name smiliing eagle alex.
