Somehow spending a night in a tent always results in getting up early. So this morning I was up very early, like 6:00 am, and with nothing to do at a bush camp was under way by about 7:00am. During the 20km drive into the town of Halls Creek I passed the first significant turnoff of the day, the start of the famous Tanami Track which is a lonely 1000km dirt track that provides a short cut from the Kimberly area to Alice Springs.

Much later in the day I passed the second significant turnoff, this time to Purnululu National Park or to us oldies The Bundle Bungles.

I spent little time in Halls Creek; filled with fuel and had a sausage roll for breakfast. Less than an hour up the road I came to a rest area where Nina and I have spent a night on an earlier trip and I took the opportunity to take a long break. The pictures are purely for the sake of reminding Nina of the place.

I noticed a couple of types of trees today that I dont remember seeing previously. That is more of a comment on my memory than anything else because I have been on this road before, and the trees did not spring into existence since my last visit. But in any case they appealed to me.

Another point of note was the rest area at the now unused floodway across the Ord River. As you can see the river is low on water at the moment. This is a famous River for Australians of my generation as in our younger days we heard a lot of news and probably propaganda about The Ord River Scheme. Before the end of this week I will briefly visit the tourist resort at Lake Argyle which is one of the results of the Ord Scheme.

I spent the night at Warmun Roadhouse which is owned by the local Indigenous community.

As it would turn out I actually spent 2 nights here because while preparing to depart on the morning 25th after a single night I twisted my back and did not feel up to riding a motocycle.
