The first step in todays journey was a ride of about 55km into a small town called Timber Creek but just before entering the town there is a turnoff to the south to a hill-top monument to The Nackaroos. Nina and I discovered this place the last time we travelled through this area. The Nackaroos was an Army Detatchment stationed in this area during WWII to detect infiltration of enemy troops. I found it an interesting story and the link above will take you to a wiki entry on the subject.

Unfortunately I did a poor job on the two photos below.

I had breakfast and fueled up in Timber Creek (though the roadhouse had no coffee, they were out of beans) and then continued east to the Durack Family Monument. This link is a good starting point to the story of the Duracks and their impact of Australia. I forgot to mention in yesterdays post that near Lake Argyle there is a Homestead Museum where Durack Homestead used to be located.

The ride from Timber Ck to Victoria River Roadhouse is another scenic section of the highway and gives a number of good views of the Victoria River and explains the name of the road.

After the Victoria River Roadhouse there was about 200km to the Northern territory town of Katherine where I will spend a couple of days to get new tyres and an oil change for the bike.
