I did not spend any time this morning looking around Roma, that may have been a mistake, but it explains why there are no photos of the largish town that I stayed in last night. South from Roma the fist stop of the day was the town of Surat which is located on the banks of the Balonne River. On the north side of the town is a large free camping area which was well occupied by caravaners. In the town the river provides a great setting for a walking trail.

Father south from Surat the next stop was the Beardmore Dam which store water from the Balonne River and is part of an irrigatioon scheme for the cotton growing which is a major industry in this area.

About 10kms futher on from the Beardmore Dam is the town of St George which is also located on the Balonne River and again with a nice river side park and walking trail. I found the flood depth indicator interesting. The 4th highest ever recorded flood was in 1890.

Just south of St George I stopped to get a photo of this large irrigation canal.

Later in the day I would arrive in the little town of Dirrenbandi and find out the near this town is the largest irrigated cotton farm in the Southern Hemisphere. Which I guess helps explain the dam and the canal from earlier in the day.
