Today it felt like we drove through the same patch of country and road almost all day. Gravel road, tundra dotted with lakes and rivers, and outcroppings of granite (a general sensation of repetition familiar to anyone who has driven in inland Australia). However at the end of the day we were rewarded for our patience with the arrival of the Atlantic Ocean at the town of Port Hope Simpson. The real Atlantic mind you, not just a lake that is connected by a series of channels to the Atlantic like North West River but the real honest to goodness ocean. The slight let down was that we were also greeted by the worst sections of road so far in Labrador. An intimidating and discouraging start to anyone embarking on a trip across Labrador from the East via the NewFoundland ferry.

For all its sameness there is something quite alluring about the endless expanse of Black Spruce forest and marshy tundra and something quite awe inspiring about the quantity of water that is washing over and through this land.

We noticed last night that there was some water on the floor and at our mid day stop today we investigated. It seems to have been coming from the refrigerator. Condensation has been accumulating on the floor of the fridge and it has leaked out every time we open the bottom drawer. With this discovery we embarked on an hour long chore of defrosting the fridge. This turned out to be somewhat more of a challenge than we had expected due to the nature of our fridge - it has drawers that must be removed rather than the more conventional door. However we were up to the challenge and we now have to wait to see if that fixes the water on the floor problem.
