The ferry arrived much earlier than we had expected and released us onto Novo Scotia at 4:00 am into the dark of a heavy rain storm seasoned with fog. We fumbled our way onto Highway 105 (which is the Trans-Canada-Highway in this part of the world) and followed it for 20 miles until a lookout gave us a place to stop and catch some of the sleep we did not get on the ferry.

The rain and fog accompanied us as we traveled north along the east coast of Cape Breton towards Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We caught glimpses of the rugged coastline and stormy seas but all in all the weather hid the scenery.

Early afternoon after we had rounded the top of the cape we arrived on th west coast of Cape Breton into sunshine and blue sky. What a difference the weather makes. The dark and gloomy wintery impressions of the morning were washed away and it felt like summer again. We spent a pleasant afternoon enjoying the scenery, taking some photos and stopped early just outside the town of Margaree in a gravel lookout.
