The second leg of our forest route continued North towards highway 211 and Canyonland. After a short climb out of our camp site the road traveled for a couple of hours along the rim of a number of canyons through low Juniper forests affording us great views of red sandstone cliffs, rocks valleys and Canyonland to the North.

Eventually our cliff top roads came to an end and a steep and very narrow descent dropped us down into the wide valley of North Cottonwood Creek and eventually connected with a trail called Beef basin Road. The road along the valley was a little deceptive. From a distance it looked like a nicely graded gravel road but up close it was actually a bit rough and spiced with a number of wash-aways from recent rains. In a couple of places the wash-aways had narrowed the road to the point where the truck did not quite fit and at least once we had to put a wheel "over the crack". At one of these spots Nina managed some photos of the wash-away with her eyes closed to be followed by a photo from the ground after falling off the step in a rush to examine the road we had just covered.(she was not hurt)

At highway 211 we turned east, past a spot called Newspaper Rock (because of all the petroglyphs), and then to Blanding in the hope of finding internet and cell-phone.

We returned to Bushy Basin Rim for tonights camp.
