This morning, from the comfort of our warm bed and camper we looked outside to bright sunshine and frozen puddles; so we guessed it was cold. But we were still a little surprised when the truck's outside temperature display registered 16°F (-8°C). I thought this was supposed to be spring!
The road today continued much like yesterday, long sections of gravel, some sections of not so good pavement and periods of very rough "road under construction". For much of the day our average (while moving) speed was down below 24 mph (40 km/h) and this was only improved by some late sections of relatively decent pavement and some good gravel. Our progress today was 200 miles (320 km).
We had a couple of conversations with the transport police today but no problems; they are just curious and doing their job. I suspect it won't stay that way in other countries.
For periods today we passed through less forested countryside and we could see more than the "corridor of trees" of yesterday. The major towns of the day were Aldan (Алдан), Nizhnii Kuranakh (Нижний Куранах), and Tommot and late in the day we crossed the Amga (Амга) river.
It had been a long and tiring day so we were pleased to find a road side cafe just passed the Amga crossing where we pulled in and spent the night. This was a relief as we had not seen a suitable place for many miles. When we arrived we were the only vehicle in the parking area but other trucks arrived during the evening.
