We spent much of the day at Chuka's Guest House catching up on washing, emails, stocking up on groceries, getting money and other chores. But late in the day we decided to pay a visit to the famous UB market (also called variously Narraan Tuul Market or the Black Market).

The weather was cold, windy and dusty but that did not impede us from exploring this fascinating place. The market is organized into roughly three connected areas. A large covered food market selling all kinds of meats, cheeses, packaged foods of all kinds, and other foods we do not recognize. Outside there are hundreds of stalls (all covered with tent material so that it feels like a huge building) selling all kinds of clothing, boots, fabric and hardware for clothes and curtains.

The most fascinating part of the market for me though is the vehicle market. Here one can buy any auto fluid imaginable, tires of almost any size and car parts used and new all set out on the ground in neat order. We must have seen a thousand complete engine assemblies sitting on the ground waiting for a buyer.
