We traveled west all day on mainly good roads continuing our gentle introduction to Mongolian country roads. However there was just enough broken pavement and big pot holes to keep us on our toes. Early afternoon we turned from the A0301 (the main road to the city of Arvaikheer) onto the A601 towards the old Mongol capital of Kharkhorin and the road story changed. The A601 used to be paved, we could see the old paved road but now much of that was now closed, and in its place was a dusty track that had been carved from the grass land.

At lunch, a stop at a group of Stupas on a hill beside the road, we met a French couple on an around-the-world trip who were doing an excursion in Mongolia with a guide and driver.

The day provided a lot of scenic attractions from the wide open rolling hills to the many herds of goats, sheep, cows, horses and yaks and their ever present herdsmen. It really is a pictureque country.

Our camp for the night was simply another exercise in pulling off the road far enough not to be a target for the fast traveling Mongolians.

We discovered late in the day that the camper airconditioner was not working. It was only after an hours work dismantling the device that I discovered that the problem was wiring in the electrical cabinet. I had, some time in the past, miswired the AC unit so that no active circuit was connected.

Just as I was wrapping up the reassembly of the AC my stomach started complaining and soon I was throwing up and feeling miserable. A slight touch of food poisoning I think; but we could not figure out what the offending food was.
