Before leaving Moron this morning we spent a deal of time checking out the local super markets topping up our larder for the coming 10 day trip west during which we don't expect to find much in the way of supplies. Believe it or not we could not find any form of cheese. We concluded that Mongolians must get their dairy products in other forms.
We were surprised to find that the 100 km road north to the famous lake of Khovsgol Nuur was both paved and in good condition and hence we arrived at the entrance station to the Natonal Park (and the town of Khatgal) in something under 2 hours rather than the 5-6 we had expected.
It did not take long exploring around the town to determine that any Lakeside camping places were occupied by tourist Ger camps. So we decided to try the road shown on our map (and discussed in the LonelyPlanet as the easier side to travel) along the western shore of the lake. It quickly became obvious that this was a "road" in concept only as it soon turned into a muddy, rocky trail.
Hence we did not explore this trail very far before finding a flat spot close to the lake, but still on the track for our nights camp.
We did a little exploring by foot before dinner, talked to a Spanish couple traveling by bicycle, and generally enjoyed the lake and nice afternoon weather.
