If you are taking any notice of the mileage number you will notice that we only traveled about 50 miles today. There are two reasons for this. The first is the condition of the road - or should I say track, which keeps our average speed down to below 20 km/h. The second reason is visa timing. We cannot enter Kazakhstan until July 17th, and we don't want to spend a lot of time in the Altai region of Russia (again visa considerations) so we plan on exiting Mongolia around July 10th. Hence are deliberately traveling slowly.

Today was about the road. Once under way this morning we traveled for a while beside the Delgermoron River before the road turned southwest and over an impressive saddle into wide open country. Thereafter the days travel wandered its way through wide valleys and over gentle passes. We bypased the village of Tsaagan Uul and once passed that village saw very few other vehicles.

Late in the afternoon just after rejoining the track that went through Tsaagan Uul we stopped for the night, simply by pulling off the track onto a flat patch of grass. During the afternoon we were visited by one passing vehicle but we did not understand what they asked, and during the night we were passed by a couple of mini-buses.
