The highlight of today was a visit to Sapmi in the town of Karasjok. In our guide book the place was described as a Theme Park and on the basis of that we almost did not go there but it actually turned out to be more like an historical village. There were many re-creations of dwellings and various other artifacts used by the Sampi peoples in their traditional way of life. It really was quite interesting. Not surprisingly there were lots of things related to reindeers.

Also in Karasjok we bought a Norwegian chip for our iPad. To my surprise we found a small electronics store in this little town so I walked in all prepared to have a language struggle trying to make the man in the shop understand what I wanted (my memories of doing this in Russia were clear in my mind ), but after a few sentences the guy responded "oh sure, you want a prepaid card". I still have not really acclimatized to the fact that so many Scandinavians speak very good English and when I do think about the fact I feel a little embarrassed that I am mono-lingual.

The drive north from Karasjok was for a long period just a continuation of the forests we had experienced yesterday until we came to Lakselv, then suddenly we were in the Norway I had expected. Ocean bordered by big mountains. We drove a little way further north, passing many rest areas packed with motorhomes, to a nice camping spot on a bluff overlooking a small Fjord. We got the coordinates of this spot from the camping log of the Travelin Tortugas.

Incidentally, tonights camp is our most northerly camping spot so far. It is a little further North than Dead Horse, AK.
