The big event of today was that we are finally dropping below the Arctic Circle. It seems amazing that we have been traveling North of that imaginary line for so long. In North America there are only a few roads that actually go north of the circle but here we have traveled a whole complex of roads, towns and even countries above the Circle.
However, the Arctic Circle was for later in the day, at the start we were convinced this was going to be Tunnel Day for almost immediately we got started this morning we were in a tunnel and there after the entire morning seemed to be one tunnel after another. We lost count early in the process but I would be surprised if we did not go through 2 dozen tunnels (some of them short but some up to 4 km long) in the space of the first 100 km of driving. Some years back Nina and Brendon traveled together in Norway and apparently Brendon noted at one point "If you need a tunnel built get the Norwegians to do it!", I would have to endorse that comment, they certainly have the practice.
In addition to the tunnels the morning's travel was along the coast with beautiful views of water, villages, and distant mountains. In the afternoon the road climbed into some mountains with vistas of yet more mountains, with lakes, rivers and remnants of the winter snow.
This truly is a very picturesque part of the world. And it seems like every motorhome owner in Europe is here to admire it.
Just north of the town of Bjerka we stopped at one of the many sign posted picnic areas for the night. During the later part of the day a few other motorhomes, a caravan, and a couple of motorcyclists with tents stopped to call the place home for the night.
