Last night we all decided that today we would travel together (in convoy) and try and find a camping spot together since it seemed that both parties were traveling in the same direction for at least a few days; headed towards the coastal fjords and mountains around Bergen.

Only a few miles out of camp we came upon a sign at the start of a dirt road that read Avgift. Nina and I would have ignored it and proceeded up the road, but Wolfgang and Romy pointed out to us that the sign was telling us that this little dirt track was a toll road, and a near by sign finally informed us that the fee was 50 NOK per day. Needless to say we tried an alternate route.

The days journey took us through more delightful countryside, crystal clear streams, mixed pine and birch forests, and finally for the first time in Norway over a mountain region high enough to get above the tree line. I think the mountain areas are called fjell by the Norwegians.

After descending from the fjell we were traveling on and/or near the E6 highway looking for a camping spot. We tried a number of smaller back roads through picturesque farm land and when that did not pan out we tried for a couple of campgrounds shown on our maps only again to be unsuccessful, they either did not exist or were closed.

Eventually in the town of Kvam Wolfgang and Romy found the gravel parking lot for the community hall a little off the main drag. It worked out well, a quiet night, place for the kids and dog to play. We even had the company of another camper. Though that camper did not come out of his/her van to talk.
