Today was a travel day and the day to say good bye to our travel companions Lee and Gordon. The first part of the morning was occupied with breakfast, paying bills, packing and buying those last minute souvenirs.

We also purchased a small soft-toy version of a Rhino as part of a program to raise money for Rhino protection in South Africa, this was partly a consolation prize for Nina as this is probably as close as she is going to get on this trip to a Rhinoceros.

Then it was the usual story of waiting for the various forms of transport. A small boat back to Kasane, via two immigration posts and then wait for a mini-bus to the airport. Wait in line to check in and then wait for the plane to arrive. You know the story.

In Johannesburg we said our final goodbyes to Lee and Gordon. They were transiting to a Qantas flight to Australia and we had to clear customs before taking a flight to Cape Town. It was an emotional moment. This trip was our first visit with them in three years, they had been great traveling companions (hope they feel the same way), and we were very thankful and appreciative of the wonderful trip that Lee had organized.

One never sees much of a city from its airport but it was obvious from the glimpses we got while landing and from the state of the airport buildings that Johannesburg is a modern city. Four lane motorways could be seen from the air, large manufacturing and storage buildings surround the airport and the airport itself was modern, clean and very large. Back in the 1st world (sort of).

Customs and immigration was a slow process but once done we soon found our way to our domestic flight and on to Cape Town where we had no trouble meeting our schedule pickup Francois, a French national now working in Cape Town as a tour guide. He is part owner of the apartment we had booked through AirBnB.

At the apartment we got a quick run down on the operation of everything and then fell into bed, waiting around for transport and sitting on planes is boring and hence tiring.
