You can see from the gaps between blog entries that the relaxed pace of travel, and somewhat quiet uneventful days are having its effect on us. Some days it just feels like there is not much to say. On the other hand our travels through Croatia and Bosnia (and now Montenegro and Albania) are interesting in a quiet sort of way. Croatia is proving to be a much more first world country than we had expected with great roads and clean towns and cities. So, going back to the gaps in the blog - this entry will bring you up to date since the last entry in Sarajevo.
After our wet and cold day sight seeing around Sarajevo we woke the next morning to snow on the ground but thankfully none falling. After packing up and preparing for the road the first thing we noticed was that the heater fan in the trucks cab would not work - darn(actually a bit stronger than that). We noted that once again something on our vehicle has decide not to work just when it was needed most - the event reminded us of the A/C not working in Iran. The heater did not prove to be much of an issue during the day as once out of the Sarajevo region headed towards the coast the weather got warmer.
We pretty much retraced our route of the previous few days getting back to Mostar and almost the Croatian border before a new route was required. The day had a few border crossings in and out of Bosnia and Croatia as this part of the Adriatic is mostly Croatian but with a small intrusion of Bosnia.
The coastal drive south in to Dubrovnik was very pleasant with the roads generally good, the traffic light and the scenery quite impressive.
Our destination for the day was Camping Solitudo on the peninsula just north of downtown Dubrovnik. We had explored this place a little when in Dubrovnik in June but at the time I never imagined that we would be back and have to find our way through all those narrow streets to this place.
It is quite a large camping ground with generally good facilities and a great public bus service into the old town.
At this time of year there were only a small number of guests.
Our original plan for Croatia did not include coming to Dubrovnik but the place got added to our itinerary a few days back when we discovered that some friends of ours from Gig Harbor, WA were going to be in town for a few days. So one of our goals for this visit was to catch up with Phil and Pat.
So as planned we met up with our friends both Friday and Saturday evenings for dinner and a few drinks and between those meetings we occupied ourselves at the campground catching up on business, relaxing and enjoying the (slightly) warmer weather.
