We left Dubrovnik this morning heading south towards Montenegro and Albania. The mornings drive was along the coast, firstly through Croatia and them into Montenegro. It was a really pretty drive with bright sunshine and the blue waters of the Adriatic. Again generally good roads with light traffic. Very pleasant.

At the town of Budva, Montenegro we took an inland road that climbed very steeply up into the coastal mountains and gave us some simply spectacular views of the coastal towns with their walled "old-towns" backed by the shining blue Adriatic. I can see why people enjoy this part of the world. Once into the mountains the ever present restaurants and "rooms for rent" of the coastal tourist towns vanished and were replaced by a more slow-paced rural environment.

The border crossing out of Montenegro and into Albania proved to be a surprisingly slow and chaotic affair. By now we had become accustomed to quick and somewhat informal border crossings but as we pulled up to the Montenegro exit station we could see that this would be different. A line of about 100 vehicles, drivers and passengers out of their vehicles and a general air of "what is going on", pervaded the scene. Eventually we worked out that the Immigration office/booth had only one officer on duty and things were simply going very slowly. The slowness was not helped by the stream of drivers who thought that pushing to the front of the line and causing a traffic jam would actually help things go faster. Very Turk/Mongolian behavior.

But in any case we eventually got to the front of the line and were processed out of Montenegro and then into Albania with out fuss.

Out intended camping spot, Shkadar Lake Resort, was only about 20 miles down the road and we found it without trouble. A nice open grassy camping area with good modern facilities, wifi and electricity. We had drinks on the beach while the sun set over the lake and western mountains.
